The Australian Demographic and Social Research Institute (ADSRI) was
established in 2007 by the Australian National University. ADSRI aims
to retain and enhance the university's position as the leading Australian research
and training institution for demography and social research, recognised
both nationally and internationally for its work. The Institute's thematic research agenda for the next five years is:
the population and social
dynamics of Australia and its region in the 21st century.

ADSRI Mission and Objectives
Mission
ADSRI’s mission is to conduct and promote demographic and social research and training of the highest quality in Australia with an emphasis on evidence-based policy research.
Objectives
- To create a productive and cohesive demographic and social research group by retaining and recruiting the highest quality demographers and quantitative social scientists.
- To play a leadership role within Australia and its region in demographic and social research.
- To conduct and foster training in demography and social research. This includes undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate training.
- To enhance available statistical information in Australia through the conduct of primary data collections and advice relating to official data collections.
- Through the Australian Social Science Data Archive, to archive data collections from Australia and its region and to make these available to researchers efficiently.
- To inform policy makers and the broader public in relation to major social and demographic issues facing Australia and its region.
