Maria joined the Demography and Sociology Program in 2000 as an Administrative Assistant and became the Program Administrator in 2001. When the Institute was formed in 2007, Maria took up the position of Administrator (Students). She is the first point of contact for Masters and PhD student enquires and, once a student joins the Program, she continues to provide administrative assistance and guidance throughout their studies.

The ANU is Maria's first introduction to university life as she left the education system after completing year 12, vowing the academic life was not for her. She had stints with the Defence Forces, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the private sector and 2 years temping before deciding to settle for the security of a job with the ANU.
